'A Mother's Love', based on Mike Flanagan's hit-Netflix show 'The Haunting of Hill House', is a sequel to the events after 'Nell's Last Dance', capturing the haunting beauty and tragic dreams of Hill House, where reality blurs with illusion.
It centres on Olivia Crain luring Nell back to Hill House, and to the red room. Olivia looks through a mirror that holds the red room door, and through it we see the wooden table from that unsettling tea party. Dressed in a red robe and bowler hat, she signals she isn't her true self, her colour storms playing tricks on her in a house that isn't what it seems.
Nell dances around Hill House, 'Come Home Nell' etched into the wall, surrounded by floating tea party cutlery, her cup of stars, and her husband Arthur holding the champagne glass with her engagement ring inside. In her hallucination she dances with Arthur, the good and bad memories of her life scattered around her like confetti. The peeling corner reveals the painting as wallpaper unveiling blueprints, hinting at the "forever house" vision, which is, of course, Hill House.
